A Duty to Protect

One of my core life duties is my duty to protect, both myself and those I care for.

As it relates to physical confrontations, this duty translates into my three rules for dealing with conflict.

As the best outcome to a fight is to not have one in the first place, my first rule is to avoid a fight if I can. This means I will avoid stupid people in stupid places doing stupid things, where possible. Where not, I will not allow myself to be provoked into an unneeded fight.

My second rule is to always stay vigilant and aware of my surroundings. Where possible, I will be equipped to defend myself and will maintain proficiency with my chosen means of defense.

My final rule is fight to win. If I must fight, then I will take every means available to make sure that I win, either in the immediate moment or as the opportunity allows.
